Bruce Power to match employee, community donations to Canadian Red Cross to help those affected by Alberta wildfires

We’ve all seen the news of the devastating Alberta wildfires over the past weeks, including the destruction and evacuation of the popular tourist town of Jasper.

Bruce Power is working with the Canadian Red Cross to help provide assistance by raising funds to help those affected by the wildfires.

“We’re located in a small, tight-knit community that also relies on tourism, so it’s difficult to see the effects the wildfires are having in rural Alberta and the people who live there,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “We’re here to provide support and we’re asking our employees and members of our community to also donate whatever they can.”

The company will match every dollar donated by employees and community and we’re targeting $40,000 or more in total to help those in need. Donations can be made directly to the Canadian Red Cross through Bruce Power’s portal.

Donations will be used for assisting those impacted in Jasper and other affected areas in Alberta with immediate and ongoing relief including financial assistance, support to evacuees and the communities hosting them, recovery and resilience efforts in response to the wildfires, as well as supporting community preparedness and risk reduction for future all-hazard disaster events within Alberta.
