Bruce Power is providing more than $1.35 million to support affordable and attainable housing initiatives in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.
The company has pledged $1 million over six years to help Huron County build a 40-unit apartment building on Gibbons Street in Goderich, part of a larger and innovative housing strategy that demonstrates how smaller communities can overcome rural challenges. Expected to be completed early in 2026, the building will provide a mix of units that include affordable, rent-geared-to-income, and supported units.
Bruce Power will provide $150,000 to an affordable additional residential unit program in Bruce County, which the county is initiating on behalf of its eight member municipalities. Brockton will also receive $20,000 for its housing needs assessment program, while the Town of Saugeen Shores will receive $38,000 for its modular home project toolkit.
Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce will receive $150,000 for up to eight residential units it is building on Owen Sound’s east side in 2025. The homes will be sold to qualifying families.
“Affordable and attainable housing is a concern in the Clean Energy Frontier, and across Ontario and the country,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “By assisting our counties, municipalities and Habitat for Humanity, we’re helping them move along important projects that will positively impact people in our region.”
