Bruce Power and its Supplier Partners have teamed up to donate $320,000 to numerous holiday initiatives across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties that will make the season brighter for local families.
Partnering with its employees, Suppliers, the United Way Bruce Grey and the community at large, $55,000 was raised for 19 local toy drives and hamper programs, while the company also donated $2,000 to each of 38 local food banks, which are seeing high volumes of usage this year.
Soup kitchens in Chesley, Hanover, Owen Sound, and Walkerton also shared $20,000 to help feed those less fortunate in our communities, while homeless shelters in the region received over $50,000 to assist with their outreach efforts.
Bruce Power, through local schools, sent hundreds of $25 grocery store gift cards home with students to help their families during the holiday season, while gift cards were also given to local women’s shelters and Indigenous communities.
Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, Huron-Perth Children’s Aid, Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation each received $10,000 in new warm winter clothing to distribute to families in need. Bruce Power’s Indigenous Network – an organization that brings together Indigenous employees to organize activities that raise cultural awareness and engagement, both at work and in the community – also held an on-site warm winter clothing drive, gathering hundreds of pieces of warm clothing for Saugeen First Nation, Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and M’Wikwedong Indigenous Friendship Centre, which serves urban Indigenous people living in Owen Sound.
“This his has been a very difficult year for so many families in Bruce, Grey and Huron,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community and Media Relations, and Economic Development. “Although we are proud of the work that we do throughout the year, we recognize the need is even greater during the holiday season. We are very thankful for our community, our dedicated employees, and our Supplier Partners for stepping up to help families across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties feel the season’s cheer.”
